About the Co-Founder - Victor Garcia

When I was in middle school, I began making up excuses to have my mom drop me off at school early. Once she was out of view, I would secretly run to the local mercado and buy a bunch of Mexican candy to sell to my classmates throughout the day. I remember the excitement of my fellow hispanic students when I had a tamarindo candy or mazapan to offer. We’d speak in Spanish about what our favorites were or sometimes about how they hadn’t had these since their last trip to Mexico. Then, I’d turn around and be speaking in English to other classmates - getting to introduce them to new flavors and a part of my culture. I could have sold Skittles and Snickers, but I sold what I knew. I always looked back on that as a funny anecdote about me, but as an adult I see it’s not that different from what I do now.

It was around that time in my life that my family moved from living in LA to living in Waco, Texas. Talk about a culture shock. It was my first lesson on the importance of flavors and food when it comes to feeling at home. I started SolDias for many of the same reasons I sold those Mexican antojos then. I love our culture and I want to work daily to share this very special piece of home with the communities we serve.
